In Loving Memory of Ruby Dianne Evens
October 8, 1946 – January 12, 2025
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Ruby Dianne Evens on January 12, 2025. True to her incredible spirit, she spent her final days at home in Cloverdale, surrounded by the family she built with unwavering love and devotion.
Born on October 8, 1946, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, to Esther and Earl Dahl, Ruby was a force of love, laughter, and care. She lived her life with open arms and an even bigger heart, making everyone around her feel special. Caring for those she loved wasn’t just her mission—it was her superpower.
Ruby married Gerry Evens in 1964 and was his devoted wife until his passing in 2016. Together, they built a life full of joy and love in Cloverdale. Later, she found companionship and happiness with Bob Gray in Sebring, Florida, where she formed deep and lasting friendships in their community.
Ruby is survived by her adoring daughters: Kathy (Warren) Evans, Betty (Tony) Tungett, and Amy (Bob) Goodpaster, who lovingly carry forward her lessons of strength and sass. She was the proud Nana of a lively and growing family tree, including her grandchildren: PJ (Chelsea) Evens, Kaysea Romero, Sylvia (Fosnel) Lewis, Kelsey Tungett, Nathan Tungett, Maddox Goodpaster, Xarra Goodpaster, Alesha (Daniel) Parker, and Wes Evans, as well as her great-grandchildren: Karma, Annie, Parrish, Payton, Tygue, Memphis, Ximena, Bexley, Ezri, Lucas, and Cru.
Ruby’s love extended to all her siblings, including her brother, Earl Dahl Jr.; her sisters, Margie Huus, Judy (Bob) Pierce, and Linda (Steve) Gregoire; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is reunited with her siblings who preceded her in death: Artis, Beverly, and Roy.
To her family, she has always been our soft landing, our safe space in this world.
A celebration of Ruby’s extraordinary life will be held at Whitaker's Funeral Home on Saturday, January 25, 2025, with calling hours at 11 a.m. and a service beginning at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Susie's Place, A Center for Child Advocacy https://susiesplace.org/get-involved/, honoring Ruby’s heart for protecting all children.
And so, with tears in our eyes and a lump in our throats, we send her off the only way she would want: with three kisses and a heart full of love. Rest easy, Mom—oofta, this one really hurts.
