Robert (Bobby) J. Russell, age 81, of Belle Union, passed away August 18, 2025 at Mill Pond Health Campus in Greencastle, IN. He was born May 10th, 1944, in Hendricks County to the late Lowell & Jessie (Wilson) Russell. Bobby married Darlene (Wood) Russell on November 10, 1962. In addition to his wife, he is survived by children Bob (Cindy) Russell (Cloverdale) and Robin (Phil) Paul (Indianapolis), grandchildren Cory (Shelby) Russell, Caitlin (Thomas) Downing, Shelbi (Garrett) McConnell, and PJ (Mary) Paul. Bobby was blessed to have 9 great grandchildren (Stoshu, Gabriel, Elliott, Kain, Marek, Melody, Niko, Griffin, and Emerson). He is also survived by sister Kathy South (Cloverdale), sister-in-law Beverly Russell (Massachusetts), Marlene Russell (Plainfield), honorary grandson Caleb Grunlock, and many dearly loved nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Bobby also deeply loved "the gang" of fellow friends who all graduated from New Winchester High School and stayed in touch throughout the years, as well as many friends from New Providence Baptist Church and the Belle Union area. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Stuart Russell, Allen Russell, Barney Russell, and June Mendenhall.
After graduating from New Winchester High School in 1962, he was employed at Detroit Diesel Allison in Indianapolis for 30 years, retiring in 1994. Bobby also farmed, operated R & R Lawn Service, and loved refinishing old items for his friends. Bobby and Darlene are long-time members of New Providence Baptist Church where they both actively served for many years.
A graveside service, officiated by Mike Mann, will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at New Providence Baptist Church cemetery (6526 S County Rd 550 E, Greencastle, IN 46135), with a family and friends reception from 11:30am-1:00pm at New Providence Baptist Church. The family requests that memorial contributions be made in lieu of flowers to the New Providence Baptist Church food pantry ministry.
