Linda R. Whicker

Linda Renee (Pede) Whicker, 67, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2024. She was born January 2, 1957 in Grand Forks, North Dakota to James and Genevieve Pede. 

Linda met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Whicker, in Grand Forks at a square-dancing social. They married June 8, 1978 and lived the military life as Bob was stationed in different locations all around the world. In 1982, they returned to Grand Forks from Greece to raise their three (now grown) children; twins Renee Lynn and Robert Ellis, and Randall William Allen. In 2012, Bob retired from his second career and they moved back to his hometown in Spencer, Indiana. Linda loved living in the area and frequently wished out-loud that they had moved “back home” sooner. 

Linda was an accomplished seamstress and baker, doing both at various times in her life. As an avid reader and enthusiastic crafter, she loved creating personalized gifts for her loved ones. Linda enjoyed playing games, her victories in Yahtzee nearly unparalleled. Her heart belonged to her three cherished cats, Muffy, Polly and Sadie, all rescued as abandoned kittens. Linda also enjoyed watching the hummingbirds from her front porch and cherished the beauty of all flowers. In the evenings, she and Bob could frequently be found watching British television, or just sitting back and listening to old-time music from their extensive vinyl collection.

 Linda was a wonderful wife, mother, nana, sister, aunt, and friend. Her love for her family shone brightly as she delighted in sharing stories of her beloved grandbabies and took immense pride in her children, whom she regarded as her greatest accomplishments. She was adored by family and friends alike, and her presence will be deeply missed but forever treasured. Linda is survived by her husband of 46 years, Bob; children Renee (Gaines) Johnson of Austin, TX, Bobby (Val) Whicker of Grand Forks, ND, Randy (Alexis) Whicker of Edgerton, WI; grandchildren G2 and Annabelle of Austin, TX; siblings James (Sherry) Pede of West Des Moines, IA, Roger (Kay) Pede of Lynchburg, VA, Diana (Kevin) Senner of Rochester, MN and 16 nieces and nephews. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, James and Genevieve (Srna) Pede. Services will be held at a later date.
