Laurie J. Shafer

Laurie Joan Shafer, 67, of Cloverdale, passed away on Wednesday March 5, 2025.
She was born in Butler, PA on December 16, 1957 to Janet Reinhart Tompkins and William Coy Mayfield. She spent the first half of her life in Pennsylvania and then moved to Indiana, Ohio and North Carolina, before settling in Indiana to retire in 2021.

She attended Butler Sr. High School and spent much of her career in the packaging industry. She was a board member of IoPP for 2 years. She loved reading, games, trying out new restaurants, and spending time with friends and family. Before retiring, she worked in Client Relations at TakeHomeServices in Charlotte, NC.

Laurie is survived by her sons, Barry Humphrey (Heather) of Windham, ME, and Brent Humphrey (Kimberly) of Slippery Rock, PA, grandchildren Rhenna, Grayson, and Rowan Humphrey; brothers Michael Mayfield (Judy), Randy Mayfield (Rebecca) Frederick Dean Tompkins; sisters Elizabeth Kienzynski (Bob), Rebecca Laden, Amy Ledesma, Bernadette Boothe, sister-in-laws Margie Tompkins and Karen Mayfield; niece, Alison O'brocki; great nephew Edward Craig and great nieces Eleanor Torres, Ember Torres, and Ensley Wagner as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends.

She is pre-deceased by her mother, father, step-father John I. Tompkins, step-mother Jackie Mayfield, brothers John I Tompkins Jr., Robert Tompkins, Allen "Lee" Tompkins, William Coy Mayfield Jr. and William “Crawdad" Mayfield.  

Laurie will be remembered in a Celebration of Life to be announced at a later date. She will be terribly missed by those who knew and loved her.
