Our beloved Mother and Grandmother, Coweta Patton of Cloverdale, IN went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 31, 2023. She will be sorely missed by her family and many friends. Coweta was born on November 23, 1939 in Gary, Indiana to John L McFarland and Doris (Cannon) Stattner. Her family settled in Cloverdale, Indiana in 1954. She married Paul Grove in 1962 and made a wonderful life with him until his untimely passing in 1985. She later married Don Patton in 1998, who passed in 2018. Coweta loved homemaking, gardening and helping with the family baling business, and later in life enjoyed watching NASCAR, motocross racing, HGTV, and studying history. She had a passion for politics, constantly reading and keeping abreast of current events and was also active by serving the community several years as the president of the town council.
She is survived by her son, Dennis (Karen) Whitaker of Cloverdale and step children Don (Susan) Patton Jr, Michael (Billie) Patton, Marianne (Frank) Abell, and Thomas (Sandy) Patton. She is also survived by siblings Cheryl (Tom) Bentley of Tavares, FL and James McFarland of Orlando, FL and sister-in-law Margaret McFarland of Ocala, FL, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents John McFarland and Doris Stattner, husbands Paul Grove and Don Patton, son Philip Grove, and siblings Sharon McFarland, Henry Nelson, Wayne McFarland, Steve McFarland, and sister-in-law Rita McFarland,
Funeral services for Coweta will be held Saturday, January 6th, 2024 at 11:00am, Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale. Visitation will be held Friday, January 5th, 2024 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Cloverdale Cemetery. Condolences may be made at www.whitakerfuneralhome.net
