Carolyn Ann (Cummings) Steinbaker, 90, of Greencastle, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026. Born on October 28, 1935, in Cloverdale, she was the daughter of Herman and Dorothy (Carpenter) Cummings.
Carolyn was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose life centered around family and hard work. She married the love of her life, Charles "Flip" Steinbaker, and together they made their home in the Greencastle area throughout their lives.
Carolyn began her career with IBM in Greencastle in 1956. She started as a receptionist and advanced into leadership roles through dedication and determination, retiring after 34 years of service.
She enjoyed cooking, bowling, reading, knitting and crocheting, playing golf, and attending her sons' and grandchildren's sporting events. A passionate reader, she completed more than 1,100 books, including over 200 James Patterson novels. Her love of cars and spirited driving also earned her the affectionate nickname "Speedy Mamaw."
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband "Flip"; her parents; her sister Marjean (Cummings) Coffman; her brother James Cummings; her half-sister Anita Harden, and her great granddaughter Kimber Leigh Anne Burdine.
She is survived by her brother Jerry Cummings; half-brothers Dick Cummings and Danny Cummings; half-sister Katrina Breeden; sons Chris Steinbaker (Shellie) and Curt Steinbaker (Cecily); grandchildren Ryan (Nicole), Matthew (Alli), Kyle (Madison), Brittany, and Brice; and great-grandsons Griffin, Gabriel, Braylen, Archie, Roman, and Beau.
Carolyn will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family and the joyful energy she brought to every chapter of her life.
Funeral services for Carolyn will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday June 27th, 2026, at Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the service time of 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Condolences may be made at www.whitakerfunerals.net
